THE ‘B’ WORD

Alright folks...I am going to talk about it. I know it makes people a little uncomfortable + has become the “service that shall not be named” of the waxing world. BUCKLE UP! Let's talk about Brazilians.

What do you think of when you hear “Brazilians”? Ew? Scary? Painful? South Americans? Believe me, I once thought the same way! Let me tell you a little story about a young, naive redhead who decided to take the leap + get her first Brazilian.

It had always been something that I…I mean the young naive redhead...thought about. I (okay it was me) hated the ingrown hair, irritation, + sensitivity that shaving caused. Unfortunately, itching your crotch is frowned upon in our society (apparently society doesn't have to shave?!).  So, I decided to go online (much less intimidating than actually calling) + booked my first Brazilian.

When the day had arrived, I must have showered about 10x before going in for my appointment. I was ushered into what felt like a gynecologist’s exam room...a completely white room with a flat bed + plastic paper liner . The woman said very little while I said a whole lot. I suddenly felt very vulnerable to this woman, as if I needed her to expose her darkest secrets to make exposing myself a little more comfortable. I kept asking, "is this normal?" + "does everything look okay??". No response. I hardly recall the pain as much as the feeling of embarrassment.

Walking out of the appointment almost in tears, I stopped, "Why am I upset? I just conquered a huge feat! I was fearless!" No woman should EVER have to feel less than, uncomfortable in their own skin, or even slightly embarrassed of what another person may think of them. In that moment I called my mom + shouted, "MOM! I AM GOING TO WAX HOOHAWS!"...she responded, "...okay, sweetie. Don’t forget your sweater."

Getting a Brazilian should be met with applause! Having the courage to take care of yourself + eel clean + fresh should be celebrated + never shamed. There are so many benefits of a Brazilian. The maintenance is SO much easier, the clean feeling is SO worth it, + the ‘TAKE THAT WORLD’ attitude is unbeatable.

Yes, getting a Brazilian may be a little uncomfortable + cause some anxiety ...but take it from a naive redhead...you will not regret it!  Here are some DO’s + DONT’s to prep you for your first Brazilian:

DO - Your hair should be at least a ¼ inch long (about the length of a grain of rice), to allow the wax to grip around the hair. If it is your first time waxing, then we recommend you refrain from shaving for at least two weeks before your appointment.

DON’T - Let the sun go down where the sun don’t shine! any sun exposure (bed tanning) 24 - 48 hours before OR AFTER your waxing appointment can cause serious irritation.

DO - Bring an extra pair of clean panties to wear after the appointment.  Waxing is a form of exfoliation + although we put on an aftercare cream to clean the pores, the skin may be susceptible to bacteria. Clean skin is happy skin!
DON’T - Apply numbing cream before your appointment.  These creams only affect the top layer of your skin + since we are pulling from the root, won’t be beneficial.  They also may interfere with the way the wax adheres to the hair.

DO - Book your next appointment for 3-4 weeks!  Our hair grows in different cycles + the more regularly we wax, the more regular the cycles become.  After 3-4 waxes, the hair should be on the same cycle, therefore giving longer lasting results.

Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.
